Manila Montet: What We Saw, What We Didn’t & The PFL Connection
The Tops
Gatus, Kassi, Anoh, Ulrich, Magnaye and a few other familiar faces from last season were there this morning. Good to see some of them back, but honestly, the big question is: where were the other 20-25 players from last season?
A few of the tryout players also caught our attention with their level. The club said this morning that there were some “famous” players among the group. We didn’t recognize anyone, but we were quite far from the pitch, so maybe we simply missed them.
Even with the rain, there were a few moments where the football looked interesting. It’s obviously difficult to judge too much from one tryout, but some players looked like they could be worth keeping an eye on.
The Flops
The overall level was pretty uneven this morning. The rain probably didn’t help, and we also have to remember that this was a tryout, not a proper training session with an established squad.
The biggest uncertainty is still the number of players missing from last season. We only saw a handful of familiar names, which leaves us wondering what happened to the rest of the group.
The club has already made it clear that most of the players at the tryout will not be called back, so it’s probably too early to draw any big conclusions.
And finally, a few pedestrians stopped to take pictures from outside. No idea if they were fans who came to check things out or just people who got curious seeing what was happening. 😅
Interesting Fact
Meanwhile, today’s PFL match between Mendiola and Aguilas has an interesting Manila Montet connection.
According to our information, both head coaches previously coached Manila Montet during their time in the PFL. Both eventually left the club after being sacked.
The interesting part is that the current Aguilas coach reportedly left Manila Montet on good terms with the club, despite what happened afterwards.
