It's a good competition. But is it the right move for Montet?

More and more people are saying Manila Montet should join Ang Liga.

Funny thing is, these calls don't seem to come from Montet fans themselves. They're mostly coming from outside the club's fanbase.

And to be fair, I understand why people want to see it happen.

Ang Liga is a well-managed competition. Its organisers are doing a good job, and they deserve credit for that. They also seem to see the potential of having Manila Montet involved. From their side, it could be a very smart move.

But what about Montet?

The club already attracts a lot of attention through its tryouts, tournaments and social media. In terms of public reach, you could even argue that Montet gets more attention than Ang Liga as a whole.

Of course, popularity doesn't mean you're the best team. Football is decided on the pitch, not on Facebook.

But it does make you wonder what Montet would really gain from joining.

Ang Liga could get a lot of attention from having Montet in the competition. For Montet, the benefits are less clear.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I don't see why joining Ang Liga should automatically be the next step.

A return to the PFL would be a different story. That could be good for both sides, with a bigger challenge for Montet and more attention for the league.

Then there's the Montet Challenge Series.

One Taguig is rumoured to be interested in joining. We've also heard that Montet declined invitations for Kaya U23 and another PFL team to take part.

Why? We don't know.

Is Montet worried about playing them? Maybe, but we have no proof of that. There could be other reasons, so let's not pretend we know what happened behind the scenes.

Still, I'd like to see Montet play more strong opponents. Winning is great, but you also need games that really test you. Walang libre in football.

At the end of the day, Montet has to choose what's best for the club.

Ang Liga is doing a good job, and its organisers are right to see the potential in Montet. There's nothing wrong with wanting the club in their competition.

But does that mean Montet needs to join?

Honestly, we are not convinced.
