I play football sometimes at BGC Turf, and honestly, I have never seen that many people there!
Even when the ex-Philippines stars played against the ex-Japan stars, the stands were only around half as full as they were last Sunday. That really tells you something.
Manila Montet keeps proving that it IS possible to bring a crowd to a football match in the Philippines. There is clearly an audience for club football when you give people something they want to be part of.
And this is where I really hope the PFL can do better.
I watched Manila Diggers vs Kaya the same day, and the comparison was painful. This was supposed to be a match between two of the best teams in the country, yet the stadium was almost empty. Sayang talaga.
Football fans are here. Filipinos will come to games. Manila Montet is showing that again and again.
Now I hope more Filipino clubs can find a way to build that same connection with their fans. We need full stands, noise and atmosphere at PFL matches too. 🇵🇭⚽
